Outreach Committee Report
In January 2007, monetary gifts were presented to Eliada Homes, Western Carolina Rescue Ministries, and Memory Care.On February 20th, Shrove Tuesday, our pancake supper was held. Any money collected, minus some expenses, would be given to MANNA. We gave them $70.00.In April, I read thank you letters at both services, from all the money that was given to various charities. We donated $50.00 to the Rathburn Center for our name in their Directory. From May-July, the Outreach Committee ran an A-Hope Center campaign. Lots of stuff was donated from St. Lukes those three months, like mini bottles of shampoo, lotion, etc. In late July, Patty Mouer and 4 young people went to the A=Hope Center and gave them all of our donations. Plus they stayed around for awhile and helped out with some chores/activities going on at the center. The casseroles are being sent to ABCCM every fourth Friday of the month. There are 18 members of St. Lukes participating in this endeavor. Bruce Stahle takes these casseroled over to the ABCCM. Jo Stahle presented an article in the newsletter to let people know of how they can help with Memory Care in some capacity or another. This was our August/September endeavor. In October and November, quite a few folks from St. Luke's participated in the Habitat for Humanity Episcopal House campaign, and worked at the site. Jeanne Ye Harbison headed this up. The Vestry had $1500.00 designated for this House. Plus a $1000.00 grant was added to this $1500.00. During the month of November and into December, the HUGS campaign was going on. We had 75 children this year, usually we have 50-55. Jo Stahle went out to buy for about 15 kids all by herself. She headed up this endeavor. We had just the amount of money and gifts to come out even in this project.
Respectfully submitted,
Susan Tarbell, Chair, Outreach Commission
The Outreach Committee has voted on the next project for St. Lukes to participate in : the Church of the Advocate. This is helping the homeless. This Church is located at Trinity Episcopal undercroft. St. Luke's participates in their Sunday worship service every once in a while. It's time to collect those little shampoos, lotions, soaps, etc. from your travels, and those of your friends' travels. These folks could also use towels (used, but clean are fine also), old clothes, and thermal shirts or thermal t-shirts, as it is getting cold outside. If you get shirts, they especially need 2XX and 3XX. Any questions, please call Susan Tarbell.
