Minutes of the Vestry Meeting
May 18, 2008
Attendees: The Reverend Patty Mouer, Rosanne Gourlay, Ginny Hunneke, Jeanne Ye Harbison, Bruce Stahle, Bill Keith. quorum present.
Not present: Vic Trantham, Owen Halpeny, Nancy Davis, Susan Tarbell, Andy Anderson, The Reverend Dn. Barbara Plimpton.
After Scripture reflection and prayer, the meeting began at 12:30pm
Ginny Hunneke presented the Minutes of the last vestry meeting, held April 20, 2008. They were approved and entered into the record with the correction.
Treasurer’s Report – Andy Anderson (not present).
Report was unanimously accepted. Discrepancy noted between April 2007’s plate donations and that of this year. Ginny will ask Andy to review records.
Rector’s Report – Patty Mouer
Patty reviewed current pastoral concerns and mentioned the importance of outreach and support: calls, cards, and prayers.
The Diocese will host the workshop “A Call To Listen” on June 28. The workshop is for parish leaders designed to help parishes talk about the issue of homosexuality and the church.
Andy Anderson and Steve Savage were elected Convention delegates; Nancy Davis and Bruce Stahle were nominated and elected as Convention alternate delegates.
Senior Warden– Ginny Hunneke
Ginny asks that reports be sent before the vestry meetings; doing so facilitates discussion. She asks that even if there was no committee activity during the previous month, please email her to that effect. Also, please make three outreach calls each month.
Junior Warden/Building & Grounds – Bruce Stahle
Stumps and trees from near the Cremains Garden have been removed. Native plants and shrubs are scheduled to be planted next. $900 was realized from the yard sale (cash to be deposited by Andy this week). Rock needs to be placed in the gully to control rainwater erosion. The lawn steward program is up and running well. This year’s spring cleanup was the biggest ever.
Bruce has learned that permeable pavers is not a practical solution for our parking lot and local weather patterns (freeze/thaw cycles break down the materials). Bruce will contact Frog’s, which has the contract to resurface Chunn’s Cove Road; we may realize a savings by having the asphalt laid in that same time frame. Bruce hired Clifford Boone to replace a major portion of the parish house’s outside wooden staircase, which had deteriorated significantly. Using leftover lumber from the buiding of the handicapped ramp kept the costs down.
Worship– Nancy Davis (not present)
Finance – Bill Keith
Bill looked up/will look up the plat for the property line.
Evangelism – no vestry liaison at the present time
Outreach –Jeanne Ye Harbison (present); Susan Tarbell (not present)
All who are interested in helping stuff envelopes for the Rathbun Center’s call for donations, meet at St. Luke’s Wednesday at 1p. The group will go to the Center from there.
Adult Christian Education – Owen Halpeny (not present)
Pastoral Care– Rosanne Gourlay
Patty reported that the committee will meet Tuesday May 27. Lots of visits are being made, some by some new folks.
Fellowship– Vic Trantham (not present)
Patty reported that the Pentecost potluck was well attended.
Old Business
A $15,000 bequest has been received by St. Luke’s. Patty moved to earmark ten percent (10%) to Outreach; Bruce seconded, and the motion passed unanimously. Andy is charged with finding a suitable financial instrument to hold the balance, keeping it separate until future plans might be made for their distribution.
Patty continues work on drafting a job description for an assistant.
Respectfully submitted,
-Suzanne Tourtillott
